I recently added Direct TV to the myriad of items that keep my Adult ADD (you can use this link to take the quiz and find out if you, also, suffer from ADD) from turning inward and causing my head to explode. Of course, like most new things that I bring into my life, I have spent most of my time skimming channels, watching re-runs of The World Series of Poker, Dexter (F*****G FANTASTIC SHOW!) as well as many of the shows on Comedy Central. However, I also discovered this other show, one that I
actually record so that I may watch it at leisure after I get out of work, Top Chef. It's from the same people who brought us Project Runway, a show that one of my closest friends loves. However, unlike Hell's Kitchen, a show that I have to admit, I love, this show is more interesting, entertaining and informative. For starters, these people competing aren't from all walks of life, they are all seasoned professionals. It's a true cross-section of the industry. Last season there was a sommelier, who was, in all honesty, an ass. This season, they have another ass on, this guy's name is Marcel, a Molecular Gastronomist. He's one of those odd birds who thinks that using foam is really a great idea in cooking. Yes, because most people everywhere would rather have a nice foam infusion on their Kobe instead of a cabernet reduction. Right.
This week's episode was interesting because I truly don't like Marcel and his technique. The show starts with an immunity challenge and after immunity has been established, there is a showdown to determine who has to pack up and go. This week's immunity challenge was ice cream. The contestants had to create an original ice cream flavor in two-hours and forty-five minutes. Marcel, for some odd reason, chose to make avocado and bacon flavored ice cream. WTF?! Who really thinks that is a great flavor idea? If i'm out somewhere for dinner and decide that I might actually have dessert (a rarity, as I prefer savory over sweet), I certainly wouldn't consider investing 15$ on avocado and bacon ice cream. However, I probably would end up ordering the winning creation, Cliff's Marshmallow and Cookie ice cream. Ends up, the judges for the challenge were kids. HAHA! Kids got to pick the winner. Marcel got 7 votes total. Sometimes, ice cream only has to be ice cream. Someone should tell Marcel that. Marcel, call me, we need to talk. Seriously.
So, after Cliff garnered immunity, the elimination challenge was to create a meal for firefighters using TGIF as a menu template. Emily lost this one with some over-salted mess. The winner was Betty (for the second week in a row), the 44 year old owner of Grub in Hollywood. Good for her. I hope she goes far.
Yes, so, this is what has kept me from adding onto the blogs lately. Well, that, my thrice-weekly 45 minute treadmill and as often as I can power Vinyasa yoga. I'm trying to quit smoking and these are the methods I am using. However, now that the new has worn off of the tube and I am moving into something along the lines of a schedule that I am getting used to, i'll be back more often.
Unless I get that seasonal gig with Apple. Then, i'll be able to add more technology information to the blogs. When I can find the time.
