Deadly sins... OMG! How much can one person love this idea?! Finally, after too long a wait, Top Chef is back on. This week's challenge, the Seven Deadly Sins. Kevin Spacey, eat your heart out.
Mike, the TGIF's chef who managed to make his way, albeit barely, through an enormous amount of
challenges as well as trips to the Chef's Table, actually won the challenges this time. However, he did not win immunity. This time, everyone was up for elimination. However, the fact that Mike finally managed to make something that won him a little respect from his fellow chefs, all while drugged up from an emergency tooth issue, is pretty damned cool.
For this week's elimination challenge, the theme was kinda' Catholic; Seven Deadly Sins. Each chef pulled a Global knife with a particular sin etched on it. Pride, Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, Greed, Envy and Lust (which I found out is my personal sin. I took a quiz) were all represented. The chefs were required to make a seven course dinner based on their individual sins. Marcel, the person I love to hate, originally had chosen Envy, but Mike traded his sin of Lust for it.
Dinner was prepared, people were fed and decisions were made. Mike really managed to pull out this episode and actually won the night with his Duo of Fish. Congrats, Mike. It's nice that you finally managed to prove that you aren't merely a glorified short-order cook.
The worst chefs this week were Ilan, Marcel and Betty. Ilan and Marcel both made sweet dishes while Betty chose a trio of vegetable soups. All of the dishes had issues, but the best part of the show was earlier when Ilan went off on Marcel for basically being a bit of a prick. It carried out here when Ilan actually insulted Marcel's dish before presenting his own.
At the Chef's Table facing elimination, both Ilan and Betty trashed Marcel. Personally, I was hoping to see him go. After the final commercial suspense builder, Betty was sent home. Damn that Marcel, always sliding out from under the bus. Someday, hopefully soon.
Of course, if he were to go soon, who would I turn my bitterness toward? Oh, wait, I know; Anthony Bourdain.
